Yemen on the Brink of Losing a Generation as 500,000 Flee the Country
The humanitarian aid groups have forewarned that more than 500,000 children have fled their homes in the past six months owing to the escalating conflict in Yemen. They have fathomed the loss of an entire generation from the country.
According to the report, most of them fled during a major military attack on Hodeida in July and August. It is the key port of Yemen. If accessed properly, it can be seen that all these children are facing a grey future with little hope. They are devoid of adequate food and education. With no access to medical aids, the children are getting prone to several ailments.
The Yemen director for UNICEF revealed that the sudden displacement has made the situation even worse. A huge mass of children is losing on their education with no secured future. As per as the reports of the United Nations, approximately 2 million children are now out from the schools. The 4-year old war has killed 100,000 people. The war-torn country is now on the brink of starvation.
Further reports revealed that many children are breathing their lives in cramped and unhygienic condition with almost no access to potable water or nutritious food. 89% of the Yemenis who died last year owing to diphtheria were children under 14.
The country and the children are on the edge of a severe catastrophe. Presence of the Al- Houthis is the major reason for this dreadful loss.
