Guterres :United Nations is committed to Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres affirmed on Tuesday that the United Nations is committed to working with the Yemeni parties to fully implement the Stockholm agreement.
During his meeting with Yemeni Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Hadrami, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetingsGuterres stressed on UN commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
For his part, the Yemeni Foreign Minister stressed on the need to make tangible progress in the Hodeidah agreement, especially with regard to the local authority, both security and administrative, noting that the implementation of this is the key to engage in any future peace consultations.
The minister stressed the need to focus on addressing the threat of the Iranian expansionist project in Yemen, which is the Houthi coup against the state.
The Yemeni government and the Houthis agreed during a UN-sponsored Sweden consultation last December to cease fire in the Red Sea port of Hodeidah, a redeployment from the ports of Hodeidah, Salif, Ras Issa and Hodeidah, and the withdrawal of Houthi militias, with a UN monitoring mission.
