HOUTHIS MILITIAS : biggest violators of press in Yemen
A human rights report showed that the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, is the biggest violator of press freedoms in yemen.
The report issued by the Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate documented 62 cases of abuse of members of press over the past six months. They ranged from murder, assault, threats, confiscation, torture and attempted murder, as well as blocking news sites, confiscating, prosecuting and intimidating journalists.
According to the report, the Houthis committed the bulk of the total of these violations.
Two journalists were killed in the past six months,Ziad al-Sharabi and photographer GhalebBalash, both were killed by Houthi terrorists.
The report pointed out that the number of dead journalists since 2014, rose to 34 journalists, photographers and media workers ..Houthi militias topped the list of violations of press freedoms in Yemen, according to the latest report of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, which covers the first half of this year .
16 journalists were still kidnapped, including 13 journalists by the Houthi militia, the majority of them since the year 2015 and living in brutal and inhumane kidnapping conditions, pointing out that they were brutally tortured.
The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate monitored 11 cases of blocking of news websites during the first half of this year by Al-Houthi Group. The total number of blocked
cases for local, Arab and international websites reached about 200 cases during the last four and a half years.
The report stressed the continued hostility against the press, journalists and media workers and the deterioration of the status of professional, economic and living journalists after four years of war.
