The UN Security Council welcomes the Riyadh agreement: a step for a solution in Yemen
The UN Security Council welcomed the Riyadh agreement between the Yemeni government and the transitional council in the Saudi capital on Tuesday.The Council considered the agreement an important and positive step to reach a political and comprehensive solution in Yemen.
The council praised Saudi mediation efforts in reaching the Riyadh agreement on Yemen.The Council stressed its support for the role of the UN envoy to resume dialogue between Yemenis.He also renewed his call on the Yemeni parties to implement the Stockholm Agreement.
The Council affirmed its commitment to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen.The Riyadh agreement, sponsored by Saudi Arabia between allied parties against Houthi militias, establishes a new phase of cooperation and partnership, and unify efforts to end the coup and resume development and construction, especially in the liberated provinces in the south of the country.
Among its most prominent points is the return of the legitimate government to Aden within 7 days, and the unification of all military formations under the authority of the ministries of interior and defense, and the formation of an efficient government by half between the north and south of Yemen.US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday welcomed the signing of the Riyadh agreement between the Yemeni government and the transitional council in Riyadh.In a statement, he described the Riyadh agreement as a pivotal agreement, hoping that all parties will work together to end the conflict and achieve peace and stability that the Yemeni people deserve .
