UN: $ 400 million for projects in Yemen
The United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Agency (OCHA) has implemented support projects in all governorates of Yemen worth the US $ 400 million.
This came during a meeting with the Director of the Office of OCHA in Yemen, “Sebastian Treif,” on Tuesday, with the Minister of Local Administration Abdulraqib Fatah, in the capital Aden Aden, in the presence of the Coordinator of the General Relief Jamal Balfakih.
Tarif said his organization would carry out livelihood support projects in all Yemeni governorates without exception, worth the US $ 400 million.
He added that the organization is opening offices in Taiz (southwest), Marib (east), Mukalla (southeast) and applying the principle of decentralization, to facilitate the work of organizations in all governorates.
For his part, he stressed 0n the importance of the future programs and projects of the UN organizations in all governorates without exception.
He called for the need to coordinate with the relevant authorities in the government in the implementation of humanitarian interventions in Yemen, is the internationally recognized legitimate government.
He pointed out that dealing with any “militias” in this context is contrary to international law, referring to Ansar Allah “Houthis”.
Preliminary visions were put in place to complete the implementation of the principle of decentralization of relief work by opening key offices with expanded authorities in Mukalla, Taiz, and Marib to ensure the rapid delivery of aid to the beneficiaries.
Since March 2015, a Saudi-led Arab military alliance has supported government forces in the face of the Houthis militias in a war that has left a severe humanitarian crisis, the worst in the world, according to a former UN report.
