Yemen: 63 cases of cholera epidemic in Taiz in half a year

Health authorities in Taiz governorate, southwest of Yemen recorded 63 cholera deaths during the first half of 2019. This came in a statistic issued Wednesday, by the Department of epidemiological surveillance in the Ministry
of Health in the province of Taiz, the largest governorates of Yemen in terms of population.
The source pointed out that 22 thousand and 200 cases of “acute watery diarrhea and cholera” were detected during the first half of 2019 in Taiz province.
He added that 63 deaths were recorded in the same epidemic during the same period.
The Directorate of Mukabna was ranked first in terms of the number of deaths with 11 cases, followed by the Directorate of Mawiya, which recorded 10 cases, while the Directorate of the shadow of the third five deaths.
Cholera is a disease that causes severe diarrhea that can kill the patient within hours if he is not treated, malnourished children under the age of five are particularly at risk of this infection.
The health sector in Yemen suffers from a sharp deterioration because of the war caused by the Houthis militias backed by Iran, which has led to outbreaks of epidemics and diseases and the closure of a large number of health facilities.
