A UAE cargo ship has arrived in the port of Aden yesterday with medicines and aid for the Yemeni people provided by Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Work.
The consignment of medicines was presented to the National Drug Supply Center of the Yemeni Ministry of Health, and will be distributed to hospitals in the liberated governorates as needed.
This support is a continuation of the humanitarian work carried out by the UAE in Yemen through all humanitarian organizations. The Foundation provided a shipment of medicines earlier this year, distributed to the West Coast areas in Yemen.
The UAE also continues to support the health sector on the west coast of Yemen to cope with the cholera epidemic, which re-emerges with the rainy season.
During July and August, the UAE Red Crescent carried out intensive campaigns in various West Coast directorates in Taiz and Hodeidah governorates through medical teams and mobile clinics.
Government hospitals, units and health centers were provided with the necessary drugs and intravenous solutions. The support included providing hospitals with successive batches of medicines, especially in the districts of al-Waziya and al-Mukha in Taiz, Hays and Tahita governorates in Hodeidah.
The UAE Red Crescent has operated mobile clinics to the remote coastal towns of Al-Matina, Al-Ghuwairiq, Al-Suwaq, and Al-Thukair, southwest of Al-Tahita, and managed to save 280 families. UAE red Crescent medical teams carried out intensive 20-day campaigns in Muzayz district and 16 days in Al-Waziya district, where they achieved great success in fighting the epidemic.
The representative of the UAE Red Crescent in the West Coast, said that the medical teams of the red Crescent closely monitor the health situation in all the liberated directorates, and will not hesitate to provide all necessary health services. The competent authorities appreciated the great role and generous support of the UAE in alleviating the suffering of Yemeni citizens and saving their lives.
